Backyard Campfire

Happy Friday. I hope you had a great week. We had a short 4 day school week, kids are off today for a teach inservice day, but had school on Monday which was Columbus Day. Fall weather is finally here and we have been checking things off our Fall Bucket List.

It's another Friday that I am joining in with ErikaNarci, and Andrea for  Friday Favorites. This week I am sharing with you a fun night of having a backyard campfire. Which has always been one of my favorite things when I was younger and still is.

Growing up we went camping at least once a month, and most of the summer. We started with a tent, then got a pop-up, then eventually my parents got a motor home. Unfortunately, my parents don't go maybe but once a year and we have never taken the kids real camping, just in a tent in our backyard. Maybe next year.
However I have passed on the fun of a campfire, even if it is just in our backyard. Who doesn't love to relax and sit in front of a fire on a chilly night and just talk, roast marshmallows, or look up at the stars.

In our backyard we have a small fire pit. I have to admit since getting it, we have only really used it twice. We have wood stored behind out shed, we have no excuses why not to use it. Austin even loves to help put the wood on the fire pit, sometimes over stuffing it, and he only gets to do it before it is lit.

Cooking hot dogs over the fire have always been one of my favorites. The crispness and flavor you get from a fire you can't get anywhere else. Austin enjoyed helping dad cook a hot dog. (Even though he didn't eat the hot dog)

Since our fire is in our backyard and we have a play set the kids didn't sit around the fire to much. They were having lots of fun playing on the swing set. Ella even enjoyed her hot dog while sitting on the slide.

You can't have a camp fire without having Smore's.

My favorite is when the marshmallow is just perfectly toasted but not burnt and that inside is nice and gooey. But you know when kids insist on making their own marshmallow and burn it, I am the one that ends up eating it.

The wonderful world of the internet and Pinterest. I remember at one time seeing a smore made with an Oreo cookies instead of graham crackers. Brian just so happened to have picked up a package of the Dunkin Donuts Mocha flavored Orea's earlier that week. I just had to give it a try. It actually was really good.

We have a lot of fun for our little backyard campfire. Plus marked a few items off our Fall Bucket List at the same time. Aubriella keeps asking when we can do it again. We will have to do another one soon.
