Hey friends. Are you planning a trip and flying with kids? Are you stressing out about it? Over the holidays we took our first flight in over 5 years with our three kids. They are 4, 8, and 12. I am sharing with you what they packed in their carry-ons, what they used, and what was never even taken out. Hopefully this will help you with your next trip with kids and remove a little of the stress.
A little breakdown into our flights. Our first flight departed early at 6am, we were up on the road by 4am to get to the airport, bags checked, through security with some time to spare. Each flight was less than 2 hours and less than 2 hours for one layover each way. On our way home our flight was in the afternoon. I think this made a big different of keeping them entertained.
4 Year Old Carry On
We knew going into this vacation that my 4 year old was not going to carry her own book bag the whole time but would want to feel included to have her own stuff.. We wanted something small and easy for us to carry when she wasn't wearing it. We kept her book bag light and she had more stuff in my carry on.
Her book bag It ended up being the perfect size for what she had in it. We also were able to to wrap the handles around the wheeling carry on we also had when she wasn't wearing it.
What was in her bag
- Color Wonder
- Sketch Pad
- Pencil holder with colored pencils and hand held sharpener
- Kids headphones
- Snacks (goldfish and cereal)
- Empty water bottle that we filled after getting through security
- Hand sanitizer

- Ipad with downloaded shows on Disney + and Noggin has games you don't need wifi for

We brought more than they needed just to be prepared. I am thankful we had pretty smooth quick flights. On the way home from Chicago to Cleveland it was rough and they didn't do snacks or drinks, even though we had dinner at the airport before boarding I am thankful we brought snacks for the kids. I recently saw a girlfriend had a 5 hour delay, 3 hours of which her and the kids were on the plane sitting on the runway. She thankfully had chargers for all the kids electronics.
