Hey friends. Do you have a family command center in your house? I believe they are so essential to minimize clutter, keep things organized, and helps with day to day routines. Since moving into our new to us house almost 3 years ago we have had a command center somewhere in the house. At one time it was all in the kitchen/dining room. Now it is in our office. It is the home base for all the important paperwork and to know what is going on. Previously papers would be thrown on the table or the island, left in bookbags, and occasionally get lost.
Our Family Command Center
In our office we have the perfect spot between the windows to hang a calendar and cork board. I wanted some place where everyone could easily see the calendar. I am in my office every morning before the kids wake up and I love being able to look up and see important dates like picture day or sports. The cork board we can hang important papers that need saved and looked at, such a spirit week or field trip forms.
On the desk is the three tier colored shelfs that I recently bought from Dollar Tree. Each kid has their own color where important papers will go. There is also a wire basket that will be just for Brian to go through including his mail. Papers that need to be filled out and turned back in the next day I sign/fill out right when they get home from school and empty their backpacks.
I know this goes away being organized and getting rid of clutter, but this is what works for us currently. With younger grades they come home with so much "useless paperwork". What I mean by that is it doesn't need saved, it isn't anything special, but it shows you what they are working on currently. I go through these papers and look at them, but if I kept everything I would have so much more clutter. (I joke that we would be up to our ears in papers from three kids.) After I go through the papers, I set them on the desk for Brian, in the wire basket to go through then they get thrown away or recycled.
Special artwork or papers. Artwork will normally go on the fridge or a wall for a few days. I can also hang some on the cork board. Then I have a box in the office that holds everything special for the year. At the end of the school year I go through the box and decide what I am keeping in their memory book compared to getting rid of.
I bought this charging station a few years ago to get rid of all the cords everywhere. Having one place for all our charging needs from tablets, phones, kids toys, batteries, etc. I have expanded the area to charge my oldest child's school chrome book. She brings it home every night to charge.
Do you have a family command center? How do you stay organized with all things paper?
Thank you for stopping by!!!!! If you are new here,
Feel free to follow along.
XOXO
