Orlando Business Trip Part 1

Hey friends. Last week I got the opportunity to go with Brian on a work trip to Orlando. I only had to pay for airfare and food. It was some much needed time with Brian and away from my kids. There were some hiccups, a tropical storm, tornadoes, 104 degree weather, lots of delicious food, some Disney and more.

This trip was very last minute planned. It had been talked about for a few weeks but nothing was confirmed until Thursday as everything was booked and we left on Sunday. I had already had my mom lined up to watch my kids if everything planned out. I was stressed with packing and flying. I got most of my packing done on Friday but finished on Sunday morning.

As soon as we got to the airport we were delayed. There was a tropical storm/hurricane due to hit Florida. Since we were delayed we grabbed some drinks and food from one of the bars by our gate. I had a delicious $15 mimosas. Brian had a $20 bloody Mary. This was my first time drinking at the airport I didn't realize how expensive it was.

We ended with over an hour delay and horrible communication of when we would be leaving. Brian had gotten a text that we were delayed over two hours that ended up being an error. The screens at the airport where not updated from earlier that morning, Frontier's website/app, and the Cleveland airport website didn't say the same thing either. It was very aggravating.
When we finally left I got a window seat and got to see a pond shaped like a heart.

Normally when we fly from Cleveland to Orlando we do NOT end up over the Atlantic ocean, but avoiding the wings from the hurricane they modified the route. I was surprised to look out the window and see a boat.

Also ocean and land.

We landed grabbed our carry on bags, we didn't pay to check a bag with Frontier. Found our car the Brian had rented from Turo. (we have used Turo our last two tips and had great experiences with both). Then headed the hour-ish drive to our hotel. Close to our hotel I saw this Mermaid gift shop that I knew my kids would love.

We stayed a a Silver Lakes Resort, which is part of a vacation club property. We received a free week from a vacation club promotion we went to last year. (disclaimer these pictures were from later in the week). Our room was just a basic king bed room, sleeps 2. My only complaint was the table did not have power outlets close to it, to sit and work from a laptop plugged in we had to sit on the bed.

Basic bathroom

And little mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. This room worked out for us for a few days.

After getting settled we drove over to a very crazy Walmart to grab a few groceries for the week for quick breakfast and lunches. Unloaded at our hotel then headed off to explore and get some dinner.

Our hotel was right by Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge, you could see the tree tops from their savannah out our balcony. (You can resort hope on Disney's secured properties if you let them know your going for dinner.) The hotel was gorgeous.

We wondered around the hotel a little and checked out the savannah and saw some animals in the distance.

For dinner we just grabbed a quick service meal. Most of the food was African inspired but they do have burgers, pulled pork, and chicken fingers too. I got a chicken and shrimp bowl. Brian got Harissa spiced beef bowl.

Let's not forget Mickey shaped brownie with chocolate coconut ganache that is mouth watering delicious.

We also grabbed a bottle of wine to share, which was cheaper than grabbing a drink from their wine bar (which was packed when we check it out)

After eating Brian chatted with a worker about his country (their name tags say where they are from I think he was from Zimbabwe) Then we checked out more of the savannah. There was a giraffe up close grabbing a bedtime snack. It would be so neat to be out on your balcony and have the animals so close.

I FaceTimed my kids to show them. Anna's loves giraffes and Ella loves zebras.

Huge pelicans

Even with the delay from the hurricane we had a good first day down in Orlando. My kids were good, they actually went to a birthday party most of the day with our neighbors. Ella stayed home with my mom but checked on them a few times. My mom also took Ella shopping for a few outfits for school.
