Hey loves. It is Wednesday but feels like a Sunday. My kids have been off school at week for MLK day and two freeze days. They better at least go back to school tomorrow, they are already off on Friday. It has been the weirdest week. I linking up with Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond for Wednesday Hodge Podge.
1. What's a winter memory you treasure (can be from any winter in your lifetime)?
I remember waking up on school days to watch the Fox 8 News to watch the school closings on the bottom of the screen in hopes of a snow day. My school district started with an S and it always seemed to take forever to get to our school. There were always so many St. in front of us.
I remember one snow day in particular that my parents took my sister, my best friend, and myself to a sledding hill. We had so much fun.
2. Tell us about the last time or a recent time you were caught up in red tape. Does it send your frustration level off the charts or is it something you've come to expect when dealing with any sort of bureaucracy?
One time when I dealt with the red tape was when signing my kids up for school when we moved. Brian and I are not married and I am on no paperwork for the house (minus his will and life insurance). Getting our kids registered for school was frustrated filling out extra forms to prove we were living in the house together and not just using Brian's address (he is the father of one kids who was switching school). I understand that our city is a sought after city with great schools and other people have lied to get their kids into the school. Oh the other aspect was because Brian and I don't have court ordered documents for our kids, even though we are in a relationship and his kids live with him. We got it figured out, I ended up having to get internet in my name so I had a bill with my name and our address. (then we had to cancel said internet because previous owners didn't have internet and we have underground lines and it would be 3 weeks before they could dig for us to have internet)
3. Do you eat/like fish? Do you cook fish at home? What's your favorite fish dish? Ever been ice fishing?
Yes I like fish. Yes I cook fish at home, usually tilapia or salmon. My favorite fish dish is sushi which I don't make. I have never been ice fishing and I have no desire to. I prefer warm activities.
4. Did you watch any of the US President's Inauguration coverage on Monday, Jan 20? On a scale of 1-10 (with 1 being not at all and 10 being very very) how interested are you in politics in general? Do you follow/keep up with/ get involved with local politics?
I didn't watch any of the Inauguration. My oldest daughter did watch some of it. I had a work meeting and the kids were home taking over the TV and no desire to watch it, they prefer Bluey. I somewhat keep up with politics in general.
5. What's the coziest thing you own and what makes it so?
The coziest thing I own is my electric blanket. It is usually on our bed and I turn it on a few minutes before I crawl into bed. Then turn it off before I fall asleep. This week it has been a travel blanket going from my bed to the living room to stay warm.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Serious question what do you keep your thermostat at in the winter? If you are used to the colder temps (feels like temps in the negatives) how do you personally deal with it? Do you kids have off school for freeze days?
Normally our house is set at 70. With the below 0 temps Brian turned our thermostat down to 67 and I am freezing. My kids have freeze days if the feels like temps are below -10.
Ahh! I remember when they used to announce school closures on the local radio station, it was always so exciting.
ReplyDeleteI do love and electric blanket, we need to get a new one.
We used to hear the closings on the radio and it was so exciting to hear your area called. We keep ours on 68. It's kind of cold in here this week, but we're all okay with it. We do run our fireplace in the early morning when we get up to take the chill off. That probably jacks the bill up more than if we raised the thermostat. I'm sure it's been tough getting in the groove with all the weather related closings on top of the holidays. Hopefully normal life resumes soon!
ReplyDeleteLOL at your kids preferring Bluey on the TV. My husband and I have been known to choose to watch Bluey . . . we are almost 60 and there are no little kids in our house these days! What can I say - it's very entertaining television and better than most anything else. haha. We have our thermostat set about 68 or 69 most of the time though we'll turn it up to 71 or 72 when we're home in the evening. Last night the furnace stopped working properly so it was only 63 in here when I got home from work! Yikes. Hope you have a great week, snow days and all.
