Hey loves. Last week we surprised our kids with a one night stay at Castaway Bay. It is an indoor waterpark and hotel that is owned by Cedar Point. This was our first time doing a water park with our kids who are 5, 9, and 13. With their height differences it can be a struggle to keep them all happy and safe. I am doing a full review of our stay.
We arrived on Wednesday afternoon a little after 2pm. Check in isn't until 4pm, but you have access to the water park all day on your arrival and departure day.
Brian got us checked in to get our water park wrist bands and the kids explored the ship that has different activities to entertain the kids. Our room was not ready yet but we grabbed our swimsuits (that I packed separately in a bag intentionally to be able to grab and go) changed in the locker room and stored our closes, purses, and phones in a locker and hit up the water park.
We went swimming for 2 hours. There is a wave pool that the kids loved, both Anna and Austin had to wear life jackets per policy due to their height, we would have required them to wear them either way. There was a bunch of slides, all of which Austin was tall enough to ride and a few Anna could ride. There was a hot tub that you have to be 5 to go in so we enjoyed that, and another pool with lily pads and basketballs that Anna enjoyed floating around in.
After swimming we got changed and Brian went and stood in line to check in to get keys to our room. We waited in line for about 30 minutes as check in time was very busy and slow paced. Thankfully they had fun activity for the kids to play. Around check in every 30 minutes they had different activities and throughout the day it was spread out further. Here the kids played a "coconut ball" game. With two players you use ur heads, no hands to move the balls from one back to the other. They one a small little whale toy, and everyone wins.
If you were playing one against one you used your elbows.
Since there were 6 of us we got a standard suite with a king bed and ...
Two sets of bunk beds.
Here are our negatives from the stay
- the bunk beds had thin mattresses even my kids complained about them
- they only had sheets we had to request actually blankets and even those were very thin
- the walls are thin and you hear everyone in the hallway
- there are two tv's but they only have live TV, you weren't able to cast from your phone or anything.
- there was a mini fridge, but it had a glass front with a light that doesn't turn off. we stacked all our luggage in front of otherwise it shines onto the beds
We also had a bay view which was nice.
We opted to go out to dinner instead of eating at the hotel. Right now the only option at the hotel was expensive pizza or a buffet. They are building a Famous Dave's. We had delicious Cameo pizza in Sandusky. It was about a 10 minute drive.
We ordered two pizzas for the 6 of us and it was the perfect size and everyone enjoyed it.
After dinner we went back to the hotel and the kids went swimming again for an hour. The pool closed at 8.
After swimming we wandered around the hotel and watched a beautiful sunset.
Then they had a fun dance party.
We ended the night playing in the arcade for an hour. We bought a $50 card and the 4 kids shared it. It lasted a while but didn't get many tickets for rewards.
This recap is a lot longer than I anticipated. Come back Thursday for day 2 of Castaway Bay.
Thank you for stopping by!!!!! If you are new here,
Feel free to follow along.
XOXO
