Title:  Exodus

Author: Kate Stewart

Genre: dark romance

How I Read It: Hoopla audiobook

My Rating:  5 out of 5

Amazon Description: The second in the seductive series that has become an international bestselling sensation—a modern-day Robin Hood retelling that is steamy, intensely emotional, and utterly original.

Some places make you, and some break you. For Cecelia Horner, Triple Falls has done both. In the length of the  summer, she’s begun to forge a new path, sparked by her connection to two men, Sean and Dominic. Separately and together, they helped bring her out of her shell and into a life filled with sensuality, promise and dangerous secrets.

Now Cecelia has discovered that Sean and Dom are part of the Ravenhood, a secret group of vigilantes committed to undoing her father’s wrongs. Her biggest threat is the head of this syndicate, the enigmatic brute known as The Frenchman. A man who’s made it clear he doesn’t want Cecelia anywhere near the Ravenhood, interfering with his mission and need for control.

Cecelia has every reason to despise this invasive stranger for what he’s done. But because she’s equally as threatening to him, he won’t leave her alone. And no matter how simple it should be to hate the man who’s come between her and the men she’s fallen for, she can’t deny everything else he makes her feel . . . especially when the secret they create together could be the most dangerous of them all.

My Review: I could not read/listen to this book quick enough. It has been a while since a book brought me to tears, also laughing and heartache. The secrets, the plot twists, the you didn't see that coming, and rollercoaster of emotions.

Title:  The Finish Line

Author: Kate Steward

Genre: dark romance

How I Read It: Hoopla audiobook

My Rating:

Amazon Description: Secrets and lies. I’ve lived the entirety of my life wrapped up in subterfuge for one purpose: revenge.

Through the years, I lived more as an enigma than a man. For so long, I denied I had a beating heart of my own. Until her.

Until she unearthed the starving vessel inside, forced me to acknowledge it, forced me to understand that I’m capable of bleeding the same as any other. For that, we paid. We're still paying. Yet she demands it still; the useless heart of the ruthless thief and shameless villain she fell for. My fear is that I’m no longer that man.

With the lies I’ve told, the life I’ve led, my mistakes are beginning to catch up with me, day by day, one by one. This is my last chance, and I have no intention of losing her again, but as the deception of my past starts to unravel and close in, shedding my humanity may be the only thing that can save us both.

Maybe it’s already too late.

My Review: I hate to say that I wasn't a fan of this book. The first two I loved and couldn't get to the next book quick enough. This one didn't do it for me. It dragged and didn't pull me in. I almost DNF but forced myself to finish to get closure

Title:  Stolen Vows

Author: Penelope Black

Genre: Romance

How I Read It: ARC kindle

My Rating: 5 out of 5

Amazon Description: Graham Carter: ethical hacker, resident grump of Avalon Falls, and the man who’s about to make me his wife.

For convenience, of course.

I need an escape plan—fast. My family expects me to marry a man I can’t stand, and Graham needs a wife to secure his inheritance. A simple deal, no emotions involved. Just one year of marriage, and we both walk away with exactly what we want.

But living with Graham isn’t easy. He’s infuriatingly perceptive, impossible to ignore, and fiercely protective in ways I never expected. Every touch feels too real. Every glance lingers too long. And every threat from the man I left behind pulls me closer to the one I secretly wished for all along.

This was never supposed to be more than a transaction. But the longer we pretend, the harder it is to remember what’s real. And the most dangerous thing about Graham Carter?

I think he might want me, too.

My Review: Fell in love with Graham and Francesca from the start. A love story 10 years in the making that starts as friends to a marriage of convenience. Sweet romance and slow burn to a little spice then throw in a twist.

Title:  Praying for Your Husband from Head to Toe

Author: Sharon Jaynes

Genre: marriage

How I Read It: physical book

My Rating:  3 out of 5

Amazon Description: As a wife, no one is more called or qualified than you to pray for your husband. Yet sometimes, it’s hard to find the words. You wonder: What should I pray? How should I pray? What prayers does he need right now?

In
Praying for Your Husband from Head to Toe, Sharon Jaynes maps out sixteen areas of a man’s life to help you consistently and effectively cover your husband in prayer. From his mind and the thoughts he thinks, to his eyes and the images he sees, all the way down to his feet and the path he takes, Sharon teaches you how to pray for your husband in ways that are powerful, practical, and life-changing. You’ll learn how to:

• Cover each area of your husband’s life with specific scriptural prayers, knowing that when you pray the Word of God, you pray the will of God.
• Become a prayer warrior who is equipped and empowered for intercession that makes a difference in the physical and spiritual realms.
• Stop your mind from wandering during prayer by following a pattern that helps you stay focused and fervent, with faith-filled expectancy.
• Establish a habit of purposeful prayer in just a few dedicated minutes each day.

Whether you’re newly married or you and your husband have grown gray together, you’ll use this prayer guide again and again to bless your marriage and your man.

My Review: Love the idea of praying for your husband. Felt very redundant every night with very similar prayers every night.

Title:  What if YOU are the Answer?

Author: Rachel Hollis

Genre: self-help

How I Read It: physical book

My Rating: 3 out of 5

Amazon Description: Good questions make us think, teach us about ourselves, and if we’re honest in our replies, they can reveal the answers we’ve been searching for. In What If YOU Are the Answer?, Rachel Hollis shares the transformative questions that have helped her heal, grow, and thrive, even when life throws its hardest punches.

With her signature blend of vulnerability, tell-it-like-it-is humor, and hard-won wisdom, Rachel challenges and encourages you to:

  • Confront your deepest fears: “What are you afraid to admit?”
  • Change your circumstances: “Would you sign up for this again?
  • Lean into success: “What’s working in your life?"
  • Take responsibility for your own growth: “What if YOU are the problem?”

Throughout this dynamic book, as hilarious as it is wise, Rachel’s questions – and above all, her raw and all-too-real stories – will give you the clarity, courage, and inspiration to embrace your full potential and become the person you were meant to be.

This isn’t just a book – it’s a journey of self-care and self-discovery that will help you find the resilience, motivation, and confidence to live your best life, or at least feel a whole helluva lot better while you try.

My Review: I used to be a huge fan of Rachel Hollis, then she kind of dwindled after her divorce. I honestly didn't know she came out with a new book until I saw it at the library. I didn't feel a connection with this book, some of the stories are the same stories just in different words from her other books and podcast.

Title:  The Dream Hotel

Author: Laila Lalami

Genre: science fiction

How I Read It: Libby audiobook

My Rating: 2 out of 5

Amazon Description:

My Review: I picked up to see what the hype was from Read with Jenna. It is not my typical genre, but the concept of the book peaked my interest. I hate to say I wasn't a fan. I felt lost half the time and left with so many unanswered questions.

Title:  Killer Instincts

Author: Tawna Fenske

Genre: Romantic Suspense

How I Read It: kindle

My Rating: 4 out of 5

Amazon Description: He’s a hired gun. A hardened killer. So how’d he end up bottle-feeding lambs for his best friend’s sister?

Dante didn’t set out to deceive. His favor for a pal in prison got him this farmhand job, and Jen needs help guarding more than her blueberries. Someone’s set on hurting her, and he’ll make damn sure they don’t. She can’t know who sent him or why he’s handier with a handgun than a hoe. But none of that matters more than keeping Jen safe.

To save the girl, he’ll have to pair old skills with new. A princess tea party and an old-fashioned gunfight? Why not. Grape stomping and grenades? Sign him up.

But as the enemy closes in, there’s one skill Dante finds he doesn’t have: The strength to walk away when the job is done.

My Review: It was a light, easy read with romance, humor, and a little mystery. Loved the characters and the chemistry.

Title:  Scarred

Author: Emily McIntire

Genre: dark romance

How I Read It: hoopla audiobook

My Rating:  2 out of 5

Amazon Description: She doesn’t belong to him… She belongs to the crown.

Prince Tristan Faasa was never destined for the throne. That was always his brother, Michael. The same brother responsible for both Tristan’s tormented childhood and the scar that mars his face. When their father dies, Michael is set to assume the throne, and Tristan is set to steal it. The leader of a secret rebellion, Tristan will stop at nothing to end his brother’s reign. But when Michael’s new betrothed, Lady Sara Beatreaux, arrives, Tristan finds himself in the middle of a new kind of war. The kind that begs the question of what’s more important—the crown or the woman about to wear it.

Sara has one plan. Marry the King and eradicate the Faasa line, even at the risk of her own peril. But she never expects the Scarred Prince. He’s dangerous. Forbidden. And one of the men she’s been sent to kill. But the line between hatred and passion has never seemed so thin, and as secrets come to light, Sara grows unsure of whom she can trust, torn between vengeance and the villain she was never supposed to love.

My Review: I hate to say I honestly don't remember reading this book, but I know I did. It didn't leave a lasting impression and it wasn't an omg I need to share.

  1. I hate when a final book in a series just doesn't grab me like the rest of the books did!
