Hey loves. We took our last trip to Brian's sisters farm in Kentucky right after school let out in June. Brian's sister and brother in law sold the farm and moved cross country to California to be near their children and grandkids. Our family loved visiting the farm a few times a year and wish we could have gone more times. I
This past June, the weekend after my kids got out of school Brian, Anna, Austin and myself went on a quick road trip down to Kentucky. It would be our last visit to Brian's sisters farm before they sell it and move to San Diego. Unfortunately Ella was unable to come with us, it was her father's weekend and they had a graduation for her cousin.Friday June 12
We hit the road by 615 and stopped for our essentials- Donuts from Spudnuts and coffee from Cafe aroma.
For Christmas last year my kids got clipboards and more road trip/ travel toys. Anna and Austin played with these magnetic cubes and travel magna tiles
Austin's highlight of the trip was seeing this van with a Star Wars storm trooper decal. He told me my next vehicle he wants a decal like that.
Ohio is currently redoing all their rest areas on 71. There was only one open rest area, and it had just been finished. It was actually really nice. There was even a story book trail for the kids to stretch their legs and read.
The book was one of our favorites "One Leaf, two leaves, count with me."
It was a little chilly but they still ran around and read the book before getting back into the car.
First stop of our trip was at Liquor Barn. Kentucky has more bourbon than you can get in Ohio and better prices on some things. We always grab a few things while there.
As I mentioned Brian's sister sold their farm to move to California. They sold the cows to a different family but the cows are staying on their combined property until the end of the season. They hadn't seen the cows in a few days but they all showed up when we arrived.
It was meant to be to give us the farm feel one last time.
The cows hung out for the evening then we didn't see them the rest of the weekend.
We spent a relaxing day at the farm. Watching the hummingbirds and cows, kids playing air hockey, a few hands of Pit card game, and reminiscing.
Saturday
I didn't sleep well so I ended up sleeping in unintentionally. The sun was up by the time I got up.
After breakfast the keep kids entertained began. Chalking and driving cars down the hill of the driveway kept them occupied for a little bit.
They also brought some baseball equipment and Brian played with them.
Our real adventure of the day was going on a picnic lunch and to Cumberland Falls.
Did you know any hole in a tree is a perfect photo opp.
The walk to the fall was beautiful and so relaxing.
Then they decided they wanted to go hiking. We found a small trail off the main path to check out. We hadn't discussed this before hand and I was in sandals and not tennis shoes.
We ended up driving to another trail that you hike to get closer to the waterfall I believe. I put on my tennis shoes. It was a lot of hills stepping over rocks etc. I had messed up my knee a few days before and decided to find a rock to sit on while they went on further.
Carrie and the kids ended up coming back not to long after me. Brian and Uncle Mike went further but it was hot, and the trail kept getting smaller they decided to turn around too.
After our adventure we found a cute little diner for dinner.
We spent the rest of our evening chatting, playing more games, and enjoying each other's company.
Sunday
I got up to watch the sunrise. It was cloudy and raining n the distance but still breath-taking. This view I will miss.
One last ride on the golf cart down the country roads.
It was time to say goodbye. We had to hit the road and they needed to head to church. There were hugs and tears.
First stop was Bucees then nap time before
We spent an hour at Jungle Jim's grocery store.
We drove more and stopped in Columbus and had dinner at North High.
Photo with a frog in Dublin then the rest of the drive home.
We had a wonderful memorable time at the farm one last time. It is sad we won't be going back but there will be new adventures out west.
Thank you for stopping by!!!!! If you are new here,
Feel free to follow along.
XOXO
