Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • cream cheese frosting

Directions:
  1. In a medium bowl- whisk flower, baking powdering and salt. Then set aside
  2. In a stand mixer beat butter and sugar together at a high speed until smooth and creamy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Beat until combined
  3. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low.
  4. Divide dough into two equal parts. Place each portion onto a parchment paper. With a floured rolling pin, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. 
  5. Place flattened dough on cookie sheet and place in fridge for at least 2 hours and up to 2 days. (if doing more than 2 hours cover with plastic wrap.
  6. Once dough is chilled, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove dough from fridge and using cookie cutter, cut the dough into desired shapes.
  7. Re-roll remaining dough and continue cutting until all is used. Repeat until all dough is used.
  8. Place cookies on baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown. 
  9. Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes then transfer to cooling wire rack.
  10. Let cookies completely cool then decorate as desired. We used cream cheese frosting and sprinkles. 
  11. Serve
