Hey loves. Happy Tuesday. Today I am sharing my book reviews from April. Before I start sharing what I read last month, I want to talk about kids summer reading. We all know the keeping the kids reading over the summer (and all year) is important.  I just signed my kids up for two summer reading problems. Having a little incentive to reading can't hurt.

The one reading program is through our local library. Most libraries do have reading programs for kids over the summer. Check with your local library there is usually a fun prize at the end too. Previous years the kids got free ice cream to our favorite local ice cream shop.

The other reading program is with Book It Program and Pizza Hut. Did you do book it when you were a kid? I remember getting a button with with stickers each month and getting a free pizza at Pizza Hut. The Book It Program is back this summer without needing to be associated with a school. The program starts June 1st but you can sign up now.

Last month I only finished books. I started two others that I haven't finished yet. One is a physical book and not an ebook. It is harder for me to make the time to hold a real book and read compared to my ebook I while nursing, putting Audrianna to bed, in the car, and before bed.

Lisa Renee loves weddings. As owner of Marietta’s bridal salon, Lisa takes charge when a celebrity wedding rolls into town and does what she does best: hosting the fairy tale wedding her clients dream of. But the celebrity’s badly behaving bridesmaids shatter Lisa’s poise, excitement, and hopes of putting Marietta and her boutique on the map. The only place she can find peace is on the pediatric ward of the local hospital where she volunteers, a place that holds more meaning to her than anyone knows. Leave it to the handsome and charming new doctor to change all of that...

Dr. Adam Brady is enjoying his new job and anonymity at Marietta’s hospital, but he hasn’t been able to focus entirely since the gorgeous business owner and hard-working volunteer piqued his interest. As he spends more time with her, sparks fly, and he realizes that he’s not the only one in Marietta with secrets…

I enjoyed the Fairy Tale Bride. The story is cute, sweet, and relatable. It was a short story and quick read. If you are paying full price for the book, it is not worth it. I bought the book at a discount. 3 out of 5 stars.

Everyone knows how those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust.

But what happens when you're the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect--pretty, smart, and, worst of all, nice--stepsister is dating the charming, devastatingly handsome guy you've had a thing for since you were nine?

Quirky, artistic and snarky Mattie Lowe does not lead a charmed life. Her mother is constantly belittling her online. The school mean girl has made it her mission to torment Mattie. But worst of all? Her stepsister is the most popular girl in school and is dating Mattie's secret crush, Jake Kingston.

Tired of being left out and done with waiting for her own fairy godmother to show up, Mattie decides to change her life. She'll start by running for senior class president against Jake.

Ella can keep her Prince Annoying. Mattie's going to rule the school.

And no one, not even a cute and suddenly flirty Jake, is going to stop her.

This book was hard for me to get into. It is classified as a young adult read. Maybe because the age of the main characters being in high school. I could see liking the book more if I was younger. I loved the story line though. 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book. It is not a new concept when it comes to affirmations and the way you talk to yourself. It has some great tips and pages and pages of different affirmations that you can incorporate in your daily routine. You can also email the author and get printable affirmations 5 out of 5 stars.

Have you ever had one of those really bad days at work?
You know, one where your hot boss catches you photocopying your backside in his office?
No? Just me then?

I blame my bestie and partner in chaos.
She challenged me with a not-so-innocent dare that I should’ve flat out declined.

But I’m an adrenaline junkie, and now, here I am.
I know it sounds crazy, and daredevil tendencies aside, I definitely went too far to get his attention.

But you haven’t seen him.
Colton Wolfe. My boss.
Tall, dark, and handsome, with the sexiest British accent I’ve ever heard.
His only flaw? That he’s completely oblivious to what’s been right in front of him all along.
Me.

Well, he was until a few minutes ago.
Remember those good old days?
Before I got caught making "nice" with the copy machine, and before I was totally getting fired?

But wait. Maybe I’m not.
If I can take on the biggest dare of all.
Making Colton Wolfe fall in love with me.

The Dare was an fun read. There were some erotic parts, lots of fun dares, and unrealistic makes it enjoyable. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother’s birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We’d vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . .

But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. “Yeah, right,” I thought. “A love curse. Ha!”

Boy, was I wrong.

Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye.

It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn’t crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart—her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too.

Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

This was my favorite read of the month. I loved the chemistry, cat and mouse game, and not love at first sight. I give it a 5 out of 5

  2. I absolutely adore the first-person intros to romance novels. They are so corny and fun. "It wasn't MY fault I was in the ER with my tongue hopelessly stuck in a soda can. And then the hot resident pulled the curtain open..."

I am intrigued by Coffee Self Talk. I have always been a sucker for a good self-help/affirmation book.

  4. My daughter is not a reader but I told her that if she reads 2-3 books, I'll buy her tickets to see Machine Gun Kelly when he plays near where we live. I'm all for incentivizing kids to read.

  5. We always signed up for reading program at our library and also took advantage of Barnes and Noble's program which gave each boy a free book (out of a small selection of books).
