Let's Do It!!!!! No Resolution 2021

2021 is here!!! Even though there is no magic changing everything back to normal. We can still be look at the future, things are going to get better. 2021 is not going to completely suck. 2021 can be a fresh start, turning a leaf over for the better, a new outlook, a new change, besides just a new day.

How often do we make a New Year Resolution to lose weight, eat healthy, stop eating fast food, quit smoking cold turkey, save money ... And we expect to do it all at once and be perfect. It never happens that way. Statistically only 8% of people stick to a new year resolution. We all hear gyms are busy the beginning of the year, but March they are dead again.

Resolutions are stressful. They can be unrealistic, unsustainable, and usually fizzle after a few weeks it not days. Setting Intentions, on the other hand, is a low-stress alternative that focuses on being more mindful and present in various parts of your life. So how can setting intentions help you meet your health and wellness goals this year? When you are being intentional you are focusing on three things:
What you are doing?
Why you are doing it?
Who you want to be?

These three things require you to not only be present in the moment, but to check in with yourself daily, weekly, or even bi-monthly to see how you are meeting your goals. This mindset shift focuses on how you feel throughout the process, ultimately strengthen the connection between mind and body.

Although setting intentions and resolutions are somewhat similar, the difference is in the approach. When you create a resolution, it is an all or nothing mindset. You’re either going to successfully meet your goal by the set end date or you fail. Intentions on the other hand are set to roll with the punches of life. If you have a bad day or even a bad week, it is okay as long as you are mindful and continue to act on the intentions you set. Just because a day or week or even a  month doesn't go as planned, doesn't mean you throw in the towel. Take a look back, learn from what went wrong or no as planned and move forward.

Lets set intentions this year and keep each other accountable, not just at the end of the year when we look back at our intentions for the year, but each and every month.

You can not change other people. You can ONLY change yourself. Think about that a second. You want to eat more veggies, but someone else is bringing in the Lay's Chips, and Oreo cookies. You have to control your own actions to not eat those. You can not stop someone else from bringing them into your house. If they are a weakness and you can't have them around, instead of someone else doing the grocery shopping, do the the grocery shopping yourself, stick to you list. Or do online ordering. I find if I do instacart, chips don't magically just appear in the cart.

Little Daily Changes:
Start small, pick one and perfect it for a few days then add on another little change. These little changes will make a huge difference.
  • drink half your body weight in oz of water. (if you weigh 150 lbs you should drink at least 75 oz of water a day)
  • have a veggie at least 2 meals a day
  • move your body for 30 minutes a day (could be stretching, yoga, cardio, or workout program)
  • breathe (take 5 minutes each day to just relax breath and not worry about anything else)
  • read for 10 minutes a day (not the news, not on your phone, read a book for you)
  • Skip your take out coffee, or dinner and put that money in savings to work towards your savings goal
Later this week I will be sharing my Word of the year and my intentions for 2021.

Last I want to remind you that no one is perfect. No one can be perfect. Everyone struggles with something. What you see online is not 100% their full story. Many only share their highlight real. Don't compare yourself to others. Don't compare your beginning to someone else's finish line.

Instead of aiming for perfection aim for progress.

  2. I do find it's one small choice after another. I try very hard to keep junk food out of our house since I don't have the greatest willpower but of course that doesn't work.
