Hey friends. Two weeks ago I got to go with Brian on a business trip to Orlando without kids. If you missed anything I already shared
9 Tips for Leaving Kids When You Travel
Tuesday started off with breakfast in our room. We bought mini everything bagels and cream cheese and fruit. Brian had to meeting with a franchisee for a new business he is working on. This is why we were in Florida to begin with. There was a lot going on behind the scenes at the franchise that wasn't going as planned and Brian was suppose to be in meetings 2 days but only ended up having to meet with them one day.
While Brian was at his meeting I stayed back at the hotel. I had some work to do on my laptop and also got a workout in. I had other stuff planned but the internet this day wasn't the greatest.
Around 4pm I was on FaceTime with my parents and my kids when there were severe thunderstorm warnings at home. Quickly they turned into Tornado warnings. We were checking the weather and apps from Florida and they were headed right towards our city. Ella was awesome with getting the kids downstairs in the basement and under the stairs. (Randomly the other day she cleaned and organized under the stairs, very thankful for this).
While on the phone with my mom we lost connection, lost internet, and power flickered. After I get her back on the phone she informs us that some tree branches fell next to the house. Also the top of the chimney was on the ground under the large branches.
It ended up being a scary time. Thankfully we had no severe damage, our power lines are under ground (just our street) and our power only flickered and the main power on the other streets weren't affected, our internet back back on, etc. My dad was there at the time and ready to get our generator going if need be since our sub-pump backs into the main overflow and their was a lot of rain.
It ended up being determined that 5 different tornadoes hit out area. Thankfully no deaths. We lent out our generator to 3 different people as some people were out of power for over a week.
The hardest part of being away with all this was not knowing if/how much damage was done to our house/chimney, not being able to help our family as everyone else was out of power and also had trees down, and not being there to comfort my kids. (we had talked about extending out trip from Thursday to Saturday, but after FaceTiming them every night and they were crying at bedtime Tuesday and Wednesday that they wanted their mommy, we opted to come home at our regular time)
After getting some things settled at home, we decided to do some exploring and find dinner. It was recommended to us from a friend to check out Celebration.
Palm Tree lined streets reminded me of what I think Malibu would be like.
Celebration has a small lake with a walking path, and a downtown area with shops and restaurants. I saw this sign and had to go looking for alligators. I didn't find any.
But we did see the smallest, cutest little turtle. Other people were looking at it and saw it cross the path then in the grass before he crawled into the lake.
It was a nice walk but hot. I had on a new cute outfit I got from Target before we left, I wish I would have taken a full length picture, but look my hair is down and I wasn't wearing a tank top.
We had a delicious dinner at Celebration Town Tavern which was a Boston themed restaurant.
Why yes it is 90 degrees outside and Brian orders Clam Chowder, and it was delicious.
I got Mahi tacos
Day 3 was a low key day. I would say relaxed but then their were tornados that we did not anticipate at all. We did learn we need to be more prepared food wise. Having the flashlights where the kids know where they are (yes I know where they are but the kids don't otherwise they take them and kill the batteries), having canned food and water just in case. Do you have an emergency kit for if you lose power for an extended time?
Thank you for stopping by!!!!! If you are new here,
