This month we are sharing our Best Vacation Memory!
- Growing up I remember going on one big vacation that we won from entering a drawing somewhere. (yes people do actually win, and yes there is usually a catch) It was a trip to the Bahamas. I don't know remember all the details. Just taking a boat over to the Bahamas and sleeping on the ground (it was only a few hour ride). Getting bit by a sand crab, all the ladies wanting "a dollar a braid your daughters hair", driving in an air conditioned van and see the real Bahamas with people living in shacks, and swimming everyday in the ocean. The catch of "free" was we were suppose to have 2 queen beds, that ended up being a queen and sleeper sofa that was so uncomfortable, and we found out 10 days before we had to pay port fees that were something like $700 for the 4 of us.
- We went camping a lot. It was mini weekend vacations all the time. We belonged to a campers club and went to different campgrounds around Ohio.
- As an parent I love our Disney World vacations. Seeing the sparkle in my kids eyes when they see the caste, meet characters, etc. The excitement for all the things all the memories and times they say "do you remember when..."
- A few years ago we rented a house with my parents and my sister and niece in Harbor Island, South Carolina. Anna still talks about the beach, walking miles out onto the beach at low tide, Memaw going on vacation with us, swimming in the ocean everyday... I love that she doesn't remember how sick the others got from the house, the mold, washer over flowing, roaches, ... She only remembers the good times.
I hope to make more memories with my kids everyday and not just Disney World.
Thank you for stopping by!!!!! If you are new here,
Feel free to follow along.
XOXO
Aw, you definitely are making memories with them everyday but there is something about those vacation memories-- both good and bad that really unite a family. We STILL talk about the year when I was growing up and my mom and stepfather found this really seedy hotel we all stayed in for nearly a week and it rained the WHOLE time; we were miserable, my brother was afraid of the bathroom/shower and someone had to stand between the toilet and the shower so he could use it... this like that will get us talking and reminiscing until we're crying. I always try to remember that when a vacation starts going a bit bad or we have a bad day on vacation that it too will get added to the memory banks just like the stellar stand out moments do.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that the kids remember the good times!
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that of all the things kids remember from childhood family vacations are at the top of the list. It's good to remember the happy parts of a vacation. There's usually some stress in there somewhere too, but I'm glad kids remember them rosey : )
