Lets Look Unwind During the Holidays

Hey friends. The holidays are in full swing. This year has not gone as planned at all. The stress of a picture perfect holiday, checking everything off our Christmas bucket list is not going to happen. As a mom it is the hard reality that I can't control everything. So far my kids haven't complained that we haven't done xyz and we are making the best of our current situation.

I am linking up today with Erika and Shay for this month's Let Look Unwinding During the Holidays.

In January we looked at How we clean out closet
In February we looked at Little Things We Do Every Single Day
In March we looked at Our Grocery Carts
In April we looked at Our Daily Quiet Prayer Time
In June we looked at our Summer Schedules
In July we looked at Podcast and Shows We Binge.

In August we looked at Our Pantries

In September we looked at Quick Weeknight Dinners

In October we looked at How We Prep for the Holidays

In November we looked at Gift Ideas for Him.

This month we are looking at How We Unwind During the Holidays

In all honesty usually the holidays are very go go go and not much relaxing. I am planning all the things, checking the items off my kids Christmas bucket lists, baking all the cookies, making memories with my kids, volunteering at the schools, Christmas shopping, hosting get togethers and so much more. This year I have been forced to slow down. I have been on the couch/in bed for the past week and a half with back pain. I have had to cancel plans, watch my family decorate, and say no to things I would have normally said yes to.

There has been some benefits in all this too.

  • Random nights of watching Christmas movies with my kids. Anna's favorite right now are all the Elf on the Shelf movies on Netflix that are about 30 minutes long.
  • Letting others do things, such as watching Brian and Austin decorate the main Christmas tree, and Brian and Anna decorated the Disney tree. Ella doing the other random decorating around the house and helping Brian.
  • I have watched a lot of Hallmark and Great American Family Christmas movies now and not into January and February.
  • More time with my family
  • Picking out our favorite traditions and saying no to others
Other ways to unwind during the holidays:
  • Lighting a fire and enjoying some hot chocolate and a Christmas movie or book
  • Enjoying your favorite cookies
  • Driving around looking at Christmas lights (only if this is relaxing to you)
  • Having quiet time to yourself every morning with just the lights of the Christmas tree
What ways do you unwind during the holidays?
