This month we are talking about Special Holiday Traditions

Earlier this month I did share a bunch of different holiday traditions that our families has. You can read about it here. Today I am sharing about one of my favorite traditions that we do as a family numerous times a holiday season. Driving around looking at Christmas lights.

I have always loved driving around looking at Christmas lights. It brings me so much joy and happiness. I have fond memories as a child driving around with my parents. Whenever we are out driving around at night, we always go home a different way or down a different street to see different lights.

I had all the intention of having a beautiful blog post with lots of different Christmas lights from our area. This is what my pictures turned out like. I just use my iphone 8 (yes I need an upgrade). I don't know how to take pictures of lights. This is suppose to be a train. We were stopped so it isn't from the van moving. Maybe one day I will become a pro Christmas light picture taker, but that isn't today.

Two years ago when we drove around and looked at lights Austin would scream with excitement "more lights". He doesn't do that anymore but he does still enjoy the lights.

When I was pregnant with Austin we took Aubriella down to Oglebay to see their lights. Unfortunately we were not impressed. It was crazy busy and we didn't have a great experience at the hotel either. It gave us a sour note before we even left to drive and see the lights

This year we have gone out at least twice a week to go look at lights, normally on week days. Some times it is days I have Ella something without her. We do plan to go see the bigger places when she is with us because she does still enjoy the lights.

Last week we went to a free drive through that had a surprise in the middle with Santa and Mrs Claus, plus little coloring books, crayons, and candy canes for the kids. You didn't get out of the card just stopped and talked. It was a nice surprise of not just lights.

While we are driving around the kids are also watching a movie on the DVD player in the van. We do press pause when we get to the bigger displays. So far this year we have watched the Elf on the Shelf Story a few times, Polar Express, Mr Poppers Penguins (Ella claims it is Christmas), and Home Alone.

There is usually hot chocolate and a snack involved too.

    1. I haven't seen the movie in years, the kids watch it in the back so I only hear it. Glad we aren't the only ones that say it is a Christmas movie.
