Friday was Cultural Arts Day at Aubriella's School. I volunteered to help with the event.
All the students backpack around the world and learn about different countries.
The whole school was decorated to go along with the theme. The secretary's desk was the Ranger Station. All of the pillars in the schools looked like trees, random campsites with tents were throughout the school, each country had Pine trees to represent camping, and so much more.
Her school went above and beyond with the decorations, themeing, and stations. All of the kids I talked to had a blast and always look forward to Cultural Arts Day.
The country I was assigned to help with Canada. I am part French-Canadian and went to Canada a lot when I was a kid to visit family. The teachers told them a little about the country, talked about he flag, and maple syrup. We passed out real maple syrup and teddy grahams for the kids to try. Some of the kids were drinking the maple syrup which just reminded me of the movie Super Troops, ewwww.
The kids also got to do a craft. They made totem poles out of toilet paper rolls, colored animals and glued them on. Aubriella didn't finish hers but brought it home to finish later.
My mom watched Austin while I went to help out at the school and Brian had a busy day at work. After school my mom stayed for dinner and played with both kids. We had Penn Station for dinner, my kids are really starting to like Philly Chicken sandwiches. The rest of the night was pretty low key.
Saturday I had a lot of catching up to do on housework and preparing for our Girl Scout meeting this week. It was a pretty nice day out so Brian took both kids outside to play. The neighbor girl also came over to play for a little bit.
After lunch Brian had to go to work for a few hours. The kids came inside and were a little crabby and tired. Ella took Austin in my bed to lay down. He ended up falling asleep. She just pretended to sleep when I took the picture. She is such a good little mommy #2
Saturday afternoon my father brought my niece over for a play date and dinner. Brian grilled eggplant, bbq chicken, and baked potato wedges. The girls played in the bedroom most of the evening and were very well behaved. My father and I had a nice relaxing evening catching up.
Sunday we had our typical homemade waffles and bacon. Then I went and got the grocery shopping done for the week. Since it was already starting to get nice out the kids went outside to play and Brian started working on the flower beds in the backyard.
After grocery shopping I came home and started cleaning out the garage and organizing it again. Once noon hit I made everyone lunch meat or pb&j sandwich with fresh fruit and chips. Then we headed off to our local Earth Fair.
It is a fun little community event that offers fun for kids, learning for families, and booths for buying Earth friendly alternatives. While waiting in line Ella meet some fairies from a local dance studio.
She got a rainbow unicorn on her cheek, and blue mouth from eating a blue sucker.
The best thing ever was this "human soccer" as they called it. I thought it was more like bumper cars in a huge bubble. You ran around the bumped into other people and knocked them. Ella loved ended up on her head a rolling around.
At the Earth Fair Ella also planted some lettuce, petted a bunch of animals, and made a bracelet while learning about the the ecosystem. There wasn't much for Austin's age to do, but he enjoyed watching his sissy and petted some of the animals also.
After the Earth Fair, Austin fell asleep and the rest of us went back outside. Brian cut the grass and did more yard work, Ella was playing and finding worms. Later after Austin woke up she was chasing Austin around with worms in her hand. It maybe a long summer.
Ella and I also started our garden. We planted tomatoes and peppers in the big pots. In the little ones which will eventually go in the house is basil, cilantro, and rosemary. In the seed starter kit that will go in my garden and hopefully this year something will actually grow is watermelon, zucchini, yellow squash, beans, and carrots.
Sunday evening we were invited to my in-laws house for dinner. We had a delicious beef tenderloin. I told Ella it was chicken and she asked for seconds and thirds. The things we tell our kids just to get them to eat something.
After dinner Austin stole a piece of cheese. He ran and hid to eat the cheese with him dump truck.
Austin loves ride on toys, and making all toys into ride on toys. He loves using this big garbage truck as a ride on.
I was horrible with remembering to take pictures most of the weekend. Half the time I didn't even have my phone on me. I was really living in the moment, making memories, and getting things done. I have to say it felt nice to not worry about capturing all the memories and just enjoying the company of my family and having fun with my kids.
Hope you have a great Monday!!!
