Let's Look- High School Favorites

Hey loves. Lets take a little trip back to high school. Today I am linking up with Shay and Erika for their monthly Lets Look series.

My high school life wasn't your typical teenage life. My freshman year I got injured at school. I had my back broken by another student. I ended up being home schooled by the school half my freshman year and most of my sophomore year. For my junior and senior year I went to a vocational school for Cosmetology. I graduated at 17 just by the way my birthday falls at the end of June. The week I turned 18 I got my drivers license and passed my test to be a licensed Cosmetologist. I have been doing hair for 18 years. Gosh that makes me feel old.

Since I didn't have a typical high school I missed out on a lot. I didn't play sports, no extra curriculars, and only had a few friends. (the vocational school I went to had 13 school districts in one so we weren't really close by each other, I had a 45 minute drive to school every morning) Oh I did do Girl Scouts. I also went to prom but that was really it. I don't have very many fond memories of high school. I did meet my ex-husband, Ella's dad at the vocational school. So there were some pros. (Even though now I see as negatives)

Now favorites from the year I graduated 2003. OMG next year will be 20 years that I graduated.

Music- Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera, T.A.T.U, Linkin Park, Eminem, Nelly, Stacie Orrico, Michelle Branch, Lil Jon, Good Charlotte, Hilary Duff

Movies-  A Walk to Remember, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 8 Mile, The Fast and Furious

TV Shows- Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Idol, MTV Cribs, Making the Band

Random-

  • I was actively pursuing a music career.
  • I was known for saying I would never listen to country music, now I love country music.

  2. OH my goodness! What an intro to high school! :( But as a homeschooling mom I just have to say... that's not being homeschooled (well, in homeschooling circles anyway-- we call it homebound education since homeschooling means the parents or family is in charge and not the school). And while I know tone can be hard to interpret I totally do not mean this to sound at all mean or negative you can obviously call it anything you want!! :) My son's best friend is studying cosmetology at their tech school and she's been able to work ahead and will have her certificate her junior year. My son (who's in culinary) is so jealous she can work at her own pace. I too didn't get my license until I turned 18; in fact my parents had to force me to get it since I wanted nothing to do with driving... but they pointed out that there is no public transportation here either and I wouldn't always have friends and family around to drive me wherever I wanted to go. Thank goodness I listened as I now drive 30 minutes each way twice a day to get my son to school and yeah with a regional technical school some of his friends live pretty far away so we're often traveling upwards of an hour for his social life.... thank goodness the rest of us don't have much of one! LOL. A lot of your favorites have been favorites of mine but since you graduated the year I was having my first son I was quite a bit older when they were my favorites. To this day I enjoy watching How to Lose a Guy and Gilmore Girls.
