Christmas Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 sugar
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- cream cheese frosting
Directions:
- In a medium bowl- whisk flower, baking powdering and salt. Then set aside
- In a stand mixer beat butter and sugar together at a high speed until smooth and creamy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Beat until combined
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low.
- Divide dough into two equal parts. Place each portion onto a parchment paper. With a floured rolling pin, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place flattened dough on cookie sheet and place in fridge for at least 2 hours and up to 2 days. (if doing more than 2 hours cover with plastic wrap.
- Once dough is chilled, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove dough from fridge and using cookie cutter, cut the dough into desired shapes.
- Re-roll remaining dough and continue cutting until all is used. Repeat until all dough is used.
- Place cookies on baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown.
- Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes then transfer to cooling wire rack.
- Let cookies completely cool then decorate as desired. We used cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.
- Serve
