Hey loves. How was your weekend? We had a fun weekend going camping for the first time in our motorhome. It was an adventure with no tablets or tvs for 48 hours, not as many "I'm bored" as I anticipated, and one a few minor hiccups.
I have been trying to get this post up for the past couple of days and life has just been busy.
We stayed at Long Lake Park Campground in Lakeville, Ohio. It was a 90 minute drive for us, down near Mohican. We randomly picked this campground based on a Google search looking for a campground with a pool. (Since Austin has tubes in his ears swimming in a lake is not recommended.) Long Lake has a pool and a swimming lake. Oh and just by chance it was Christmas in July.
Friday morning two of my kids had dentist appointments (no cavities) afterwards we came home and finished packing. I prepped meals to make cooking easier in a small kitchen.
We were not sure how well the freezer was going to do so we didn't pack too much freezer food. We did end up buying a bag of ice and put it on the bottom. Everything stayed nicely frozen.
We hit the road by noon. Brian drove the camper with the kids, I drove the truck with firewood and bikes. Since it was our first camping trip we wanted an extra vehicle just in case. I enjoyed a quiet ride and listened to an audiobook. I will say driving the truck wasn't my first choice I would have preferred to drive my van. The seat in the truck doesn't go up so I have to sit on a pillow and it is not the most comfortable drive for long distances for me. It did end up taking its toll on my back.
Brian and I got the camper set up along with the first "I'm Bored". The kids had packed their own toy bags of stuff to keep them busy. One kid did a lot better than the other and completed a Lego set, while the other sibling stole Legos. Next time I will have to double check the bags. They also had a snack.
Then they were off on their first bike riding adventure. They were told to stick together (which they only half listened to) but they could go anywhere in the campground gate.
While they were off on their bikes we stopped at the office and asked a few questions that Brian and I went for a walk.
It wasn't the warmest out but they insisted on going swimming. The pool goes from 2 feet to 5 1/2 feet. I love that they had the swallow area that Anna could touch with no issue.
The kids went swimming for about an hour. Brian hopped in for a few minutes. I enjoyed reading my book. We headed back to our campsite to make dinner. Our site was unique with gravel instead of grass and a triangle lot. At times it felt like everyone was watching you, and the gravel wasn't ideal. We learned later by talking with seasonal campers that this spot floods when it rains.
Dinner the first night Garlic Expression checked with diced red potatoes and green beans over the fire. I marinated the chicken, and had the potatoes and green beans cup up before we left the house. Make it simple to just add to foil pouches when we were ready to cook.
While I was prepping dinner, and Brian was starting the fire to cook dinner, Anna and Austin played a pizza game then played Uno.
Dinner on the fire. This campground all the fire pits had grats on them to cook on. (otherwise we would have put the chicken punches in the hot ashes of the fire to cook).
Dinner turned out delicious. Both kids are most of it. I cleaned up dinner and washed dishes while the kids went to play at the playground. Then we all went to the office store to get ice cream. They had the prepackaged ice cream. Anna and Austin got cones, Brian got a sandwich, and I got a Snickers bar. We are our ice cream on the dock over the lake then headed back to the camper to play Uno for about an hour.
As the sun was starting to set we decided to go for a walk and the kids were on their bikes to see Christmas decorations.
We ended the night with s'mores and hot dogs on the fire. The kids and I were in the camper ready for bed by 1030pm.
Anna woke us up at 7am ready to go. I will take that as it is sleeping in compared to a normal day. I got dressed and walked to the bathroom and saw the lake. The temps had dropped to 57 overnight with the lake water warmer than that you get the steam. Very spooky feeling. The pool was also the same way, and the spider webs on the bushes all had dew. Very fall feeling, not the middle of summer.
I went back to the camper, made a cup of coffee and headed back to the lake and FaceTimed my parents.
Brian made breakfast on the electric skillet. We had egg burritos with bacon.
After breakfast the kids were off on their bikes. I laid down on the carpet and did my morning stretching. The drive and sleeping in the camper were not nice to my back.
Then it was more Uno.
Brian and I went on another walk.

With it being Christmas in July they had activities planned throughout Saturday for the kids. At 10am in the pavilion they had Christmas cookie decorating
and paint a Christmas ornament. The ornament was a cupcake made out of spray foam with a cupcake liner, and metal hook on top. Anna ended up getting paint on her clothes that wouldn't wash off.
The third activity was a Gingerbread TeePee. We opted to not make one.
We decided to drive to the local grocery store to grab a few things we forgot. (this happens because I did all the packing and it was also ur first time out) There was an IGA 10 minutes away. Then we went to Mohican Market and Deli and got a few snacks too. It took us by the main strip of Mohican parks, river, go carts, etc. It got us coming up with ideas for next summer.
When we got home we were all hungry. I made sandwiches for lunch. Then it was off to the pool for a while.
The next activity was a Golf Cart parade and the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs Claus on a motorcycle.
The Grinch also joined in the fun and passed out candy canes.
The winner of the decorated golf carts was this Hawaiian themed cart. All the carts with Santa, Mrs Claus, the Grinch and more drove up and down the roads throwing candy.
After the parade we took a much needed nap.
While laying there we started smelling something funky. We determined the air conditioner in the camper broke. Thankfully it wasn't to hot we just had a fan going and the nights got cool.
Next activity was a ride of the "Polar Express" to different stops around the campground. There were 5 designated stops that had little goodie bags for the kids.
This was their version of the "Polar Express". I thought it was just for kids so we sent our kids on it by themselves with the rule they had to stick together. Then it turned out there was a lot of adults that went. We started walking to follow along. A nice guy with a golf cart offered for us to join him.

After our kids got off the Polar Express we went swimming. The Polar Express did end up having to make two more trips based on how many people were in line. It was also 530 and dinner time for many. There was only us and another family in the pool this time.
Easy dinner for the evening, walking tacos. I cooked the meat on the stove in the motorhome and assembled it outside. I also made Anna a quesadilla since she is my little picky butt.
While I was making dinner Austin also lost a tooth. I told him the tooth fairy does not go camping.
After dinner the kids were back off on their bikes and to the playground while I did dishes.
The gentleman across from our campsite offered for us to borrow his golf cart to take the kids for a ride and see all the Christmas lights and decorations. We took him up on the offer and saw more of the campground that was up the big hill.
We ended the night with a fire
and smores. The kids were in bed by 10, I lasted until 1030. Brian always stays up later.
Sunday morning we had a slow start again. We made breakfast, which was egg burritos again and Anna had cereal. We packed up the camper and headed home by 1030, check out was 11.
We had a great first camping trip and are planning our next one already.
