How We: Take Care of Ourselves

Happy Valentine's Day. Who else is excited to go to your child's school for their party today? Me Me!!! Oh just me. I love helping out at Ella's school. Today is her Friendship party (since we have to be politically correct and not say Valentine's Day Party). Monday night Ella and I made chocolate chip cookies for her party, her school hasn't stopped homemade bake goods yet. Last night I bagged up her Valentine's to pass out. We are ready to go.

Today I am linking up with Shay and Erika with How We...Wednesday. Last month we discussed New Years Goals and Resolutions. This month is How We... Take Care of Ourselves.

I have very recently just started self care and taking little bits of time just for myself. Some things I have done on and off for years but I am really trying to be intentional with my time in 2018 and better myself and my family. I use to be on the go all the time, scattered brained, and a multi-tasking queen. I am working on spending more time with my family, being focused and unplugging. I would love to hear what you to do take care of yourself also.

- Quiet Time -

Every morning I plan on waking up early and having some quiet time. I spend this time writing down my daily gratitude's, reading my daily devotional, some days I drink hot water with a little lemon or tea, and just enjoy peace and quiet before the day gets noisy, rushed, and busy. By doing all this I also feel accomplished that I actually achieved something that day. My day runs more smoothly when I do get up early, I need to get back into the habit and stop with the excuses.

- Daily Devotional -

I have only started reading a daily devotional this year. I wasn't raised going to church or religious what so ever. A few girlfriends recommended I subscribe to a daily email from Proverbs 31 since I was interested in growing religiously. It is a great way to start. I get an e-mail 5 days a week that really has got my thinking.

- Daily Gratitude -

This year I also started writing daily gratitude. I will write between 5 and 10 things I am grateful for. I have a small spiral notebook that I keep with all my books. This is normally the first thing I do. Some days are harder than others to come up with things I am truly grateful for. Starting the day thinking of the positive helps to stay positive and puts me in a better mood.

- Staying Active -

My goal is to workout 6 days a week. I know that working out gives me more energy, puts me in a better mood, and helps me keep up with my kids. I am far from perfect and I am not where I want to be physically yet but I am working towards my goals.

Being active doesn't have to mean working out at home or going to the gym. When it is nice out we spend a lot of time outside, riding bikes, going for walks, kicking a ball around, or just chasing after my kids. My goal is to hit 10,000 steps a day, but I have recently been failing at this with the weather being cold and snowy. I can only walk laps around my house so much.

- Fueling my Body -

When you eat like crap you feel like crap. I use to be that girl that lived off fast food and going out to dinner. I use to always be tired, sluggish, and drinking lots of energy drinks. I learned that if I fuel my body with the proper foods, fresh fruits and veggies, healthy proteins, less processed foods I feel so much better and have more energy. On a normal day my breakfast is 2 eggs, mixed veggies (normally spinach, peppers, onion, and mushrooms) and one slice of whole grain toast.

I am also a big believer in Super Foods. I love my shakes, my favorite is chocolate. When I drink a super food shake I have more energy, I don't get sick, and (tmi) improved digestion. I also love blueberries, dark chocolate, kale, quinoa, and salmon

- Relax -

Who doesn't love a nice relaxing bubble bath. I know I do. I just need a bigger tub, next home goals. I try to take a bath once a week to relax my muscles. It is a great way to end a day with a book and a lavender candle.

- Read -

Since having kids I have started enjoying reading again. I don't know what the difference is. There was a time in my life give me a good gossip magazine and don't think about giving me a book. Now throw the gossip in the trash and give me a good book. Each month I link up the books I have read the preview month. Reading has given my time to relax, I watch less tv, and I have joined a few book clubs that have helped with connect with other girlfriends. I am always reading at least 2 or more books now.

- Unplug -

In today's day and age sometimes it is hard to unplug. I am working on not being on my phone all the time. Brian and I have date nights without our phones. If we are having a meal at the table (breakfast and dinner normally) there is no electronics at all. I also have been more intentional with spending quality time with my kids and no phones in reach.

Can't wait to see what all you other ladies do to take care of yourselves. Hope you have a great Valentine's Day with your loved ones.

  1. Hi, Adrienne! Yes, girl, yes, I need that quiet time and relaxing! I have just recently started working out a few days a week but I'm FAR from reaching my goals. In time, I guess! It looks like you have got it together. :)
