Tuesday Talk- Making Memories

Hey loves. Happy Tuesday. Today I am linking up with Erika for Tuesday Talk. Lets talk about making memories with our kids.

If there is anything that Covid has taught us, we want to be making happy memories with our kids. When I think back to a kid I remember vacations, and camping. Which is something that has been limited with Covid. I also remember slumber parties in the living room, family movie and game nights, going for walks, and Friday take out nights. I remember baking cookies with my mom every holiday season and looking around the house for our hidden Easter baskets. I am all about making lasting memories and traditions with my family. I want my kids to remember this time not only just for being "bored in the house, and I'm in the house bored".

Yesterday both kids had off school for MLK day. I decided to make it a little more special and spend intentional quality focused time with my kids, even though I have a list a mile long of things I would have liked to get done instead. They grow up so far and won't always like hanging out with mom.

We started off our morning in the basement. By Austin's request he showed me his race car game on the Xbox. Then Ella put on a performance. Audrianna was done in the basement and tried escaping up the stairs so we headed up stairs to have a movie day. We watched Frozen and Planes.

I surprised the kids with having homemade pizza for lunch. They both love helping in the kitchen and we haven't made homemade pizza in a while. Austin got to help shred the cheese (that also means he steals cheese)

Ella got to help spread the sauce. They both got to put on the cheese. We actually made two pizzas, and they also helped put toppings on the other pizza.

The last surprise I had for the kids were microwave cake cups. I found them at the grocery store the other day. Quick to add water and pop in the microwave, single serving and they each get their own. I also love that there isn't a while cake sitting around calling my name.

I have also been working on spending more time one on one with each kid. Being intentional with the time, and putting my phone down more.

Austin is big right now into showing you his games on the xbox, his train set up (it gets taken down and put up each day so it always looks different), and all his accidents with his cars and trucks.

Ella right now wants to do crafts, put on performances, and just sit down and read together.

What are some ways you intentionally make memories with your family?

  1. This a great reminder. I don't often play with my kids but I know that is what they want. It can be difficult since I do spend my whole day with them with virtual learning and then I need my evenings for work and exercise (and food prep and cleaning).

    1. I think we all can agree we don't play with our kids often enough. Especially with the kids home all day and having time to do everything else we need to. I have found that getting up before the kids to workout and getting other things done gives me more time to do other things.

  2. I too am trying to be more intentional with my time with my kids. It can be so hard. I hope to spend more one on one time with them as well, which can be hard with Covid and finding someone to watch the other kids.
